Hyper-V recovery across two NEXTDC data centres
An enterprise needed a second location for critical workloads. We built a four-host Hyper-V environment with two storage arrays, real-time replication and dedicated dark fibre between NEXTDC facilities.

Before
- Critical workloads ran from one data centre with no live recovery site.
- Recovery objectives called for near-zero data loss and fast failover.
- Storage replication needed consistent, low-delay connectivity.
- Networking required redundancy and capacity for production and replication traffic.
After
- Four Hyper-V hosts split across two NEXTDC data centres.
- Two SAN storage arrays with real-time replication.
- Two Dell switch stacks for redundant core networking.
- An active-passive cluster linked by dedicated dark fibre.
A second site ready for recovery
We designed an active-passive Hyper-V cluster across the two facilities. Dedicated dark fibre supported the storage replication between the SAN arrays.
Dual Dell switch stacks added redundancy at the network layer, with capacity for business workloads and copying traffic. The resulting setup provided a recovery location for the organisation’s critical systems.
“We went from a single point of failure to a true DR setup. Knowing our critical systems can come up at the second site in minutes changes how we think about risk.”
